Reason 2

There are books to suit every pocket – or piggy bank.

M07F6I_Z   One of my favourite books this year was The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski.

winner's Curse

Kestrel is a general’s daughter and lives on a lavish estate. Despite her father’s wealth and status, her choices are limited: she is expected to marry or to join the military. The latter may be a problem as she is hopeless with weapons but she is shrewd, intelligent and an excellent strategist.

Nevertheless, she is tricked into buying Arin at a slave auction and a series of events is set in motion that will see the rebels taking back what was once theirs.

A strong, clever female character, just the right amount of romance, and an ending that leaves you desperate for more.
