At the end of Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, Anna sacrificed herself to save Cas and his friends, Thomas and Carmel.
In the sequel, Girl of Nightmares, Cas is having a hard time coming to terms with losing Anna even though Anna was a ghost and had been ‘responsible’ for a number of grisly deaths.
As the first chapter opens, Cas is on a date set up by Carmel. Trouble is, when he looks at Cait Hecht, a junior at Winston Churchill, who, for some unknown reason, is actually interested in him, all he can see is the face of a girl he once killed.
Cas kills ghosts. He used to work alone but now Thomas, who is a witch, and Carmel go with him on his ghost hunts. Unfortunately, he puts their lives in danger when he becomes distracted whilst dealing with a ghost when he thinks he hears Anna scream.
It appears that Anna is trapped in Hell rather than passing on. Cas is determined to rescue her and bring her back no matter the cost – even if the cost is his life’s blood.
These two books are for older teens.
