Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

One of my favourite books of 2012 was Cinder, book 1 of The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. The story continues in Scarlet.

In chapter 1 we meet Scarlet Benoit who has just received a comm from the Toulouse Law Enforcement Department of Missing Persons telling her that they will no longer be looking for her grandmother. Scarlet is convinced that her grandmother has been kidnapped and is determined to find and rescue her. Betrayed by her own father, Scarlet is forced to put her trust in Wolf, a street fighter.

Linh Cinder, meanwhile, has escaped from prison with Carswell Thorne.

This is the perfect combination of science fiction and fairytale (Scarlet is, of course, Red Riding Hood).  But be warned – it’s a long time until 2014 and the next book in the series.
